Listen to the Prologue of The Serpent Sword

Listen to the Prologue of The Serpent Sword.

UPDATE November 2016

The above recording is of me reading the Prologue of The Serpent Sword. At the time, I was toying with the idea of recording the whole thing myself. In the end, the rights to record the audio book of The Serpent Sword, along with The Cross and the Curse and Blood and Blade, were bought by Audible Studios. They appointed talented actor Barnaby Edwards to narrate the books and they are all available via Audible. I'd love to hear what you think of Barnaby's narration, so please leave a review there.

Thanks!

  1. I'm a regular listener to audio books whilst walking to work or doing jobs around the house. Although I have already read The Serpent Sword, I would gladly listen to an audio version and future books in the Bernicia Chronicles.

I enjoy listening to most narrators but if not read well it can stop me from listening to a good book. The narrator needs to read with enthusiasm and I like to hear different character voices and accents. My favourite narrators are Mike Rogers and Steven Crossley.

    1. Thanks for the comments, David.

I'll look out for the narrators you mention.

  2. I loved this reading but I do wonder if you don't need to use a filter on the sibilance, and possibly a pop screen.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment, Angela. You are right, of course! This was more a sort of "proof of concept" to see whether people liked my reading. It was done on a cheap headset microphone. If I do end up recording the full audiobook, it will be with professional quality recording equipment.

  3. I'm listening on my computer with a headset - it's nice and clear, Matthew. You have a great narrator voice, IMO!

  4. Very nice! Crisp, clear reading. Just enough to get the reader wanting more.. I happen to be one of those persons that does not like different character voices, or accents...unless the word is written in such a manner. Lovely voice you have.
